The Other Bar Foundation
was created in 2007 as a non-profit organization to serve
as a supporting organization for The Other Bar, Inc. under
the provisions of Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3)
as a Type II foundation, The Other Bar Foundation is the
primary fundraising arm of The Other Bar. Currently, yearly
pledges to the Foundation have been made by all members
of The Other Bar Board of Directors, as well as by numerous
law firms and individuals. Grants have also been applied

While
The Other Bar has been in existence since the
early 1970s , The Other Bar, Inc was created in
1978 as a California non-profit corporation for
the purposes of better organizing the efforts
of the statewide organization. Among its many
functions, The Other Bar, Inc. funds expenses
associated with The Other Bar Consultants, the
confidential telephone hotline, operation of the
website, The Other Bar directory and brochure,
video MCLE courses and other educational materials.

The
Edwin Train Caldwell Shot of Sobriety

The Edwin
Caldwell Shot of Sobriety is a program that
advances funds to lawyers, judges, and law students
in need of treatment for chemical dependency.
Originally named Shot of Sobriety, the program
was renamed in 2008 in honor of Ed Caldwell.
Ed is one of the original founders of The Other
Bar, and he has served for years on its Board
of Directors. This program is one of the most
important programs of The Other Bar. It began
as Ed's pet project and was often funded out
of his own pocket. Currently an average of five
to eight individuals are refered to the program
per year. (Tax

An anonymous
member will match dollar for dollar the first
$650 donated quarterly to the Shot of Sobriety
Fund, effective Oct 1st, 2012.

Beard Memorial Fund

Judge William
"Bill" Beard was a founder of The
Other Bar in Southern California in the early
1970's, and was instrumental in helping it grow
into a statewide organization of recovering
lawyers and judges. He personally helped countless
individuals in recovery. Donations to this fund
are used to provide scholarships in his name
to attorneys and law students in need of financial
assistance to attend The Other Bar annual Men's
and Women's retreats, as well as the annual
Spring Networking. (Tax
